The Fair Work Commission approves Family and Domestic Violence Leave

From the 01st August 2018 employees covered by Modern Awards will be entitled to 5 days of unpaid leave to use if they are experiencing family and domestic violence.

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has introduced this additional entitlement to assist employees who are experiencing family and domestic violence to seek appropriate support and assistance during this unpaid leave.

Only employees covered by Modern Awards (including casuals) will have this entitlement legislated, however all businesses may include or incorporate the family and domestic violence leave entitlement into their existing policies or practices.

The FWC has outlined that employees may need to provide evidence supporting their claim for leave which could include a police report, letter from the doctor or letter from the court.
