To put it plainly, the only thing on everyone’s minds on a Friday arvo is the WEEKEND.
As a business owner, it is fantastic for morale to treat your team to a Friday team lunch or knock off beers. However, sometimes we don’t have the capacity, time or money to do this weekly.
So, what to do instead?
Here at wattsnext we have the same routine each Friday – which the whole team gets excited about.
This routine keeps up company morale AND actually sets the individual up for the week (which in turn leads to greater productivity for the business).
So, here is a debrief of our wattsnext Friday afternoon ritual:
- Debrief from the week that was: Successful professionals swear by weekly reflections. Each Friday at 2pm we hold a sales meeting that covers the week that was: from accomplishments and budgets, to current and future goals.
- Reflect on accomplishments: It is easy to wallow in the failures. Here at wattsnext we focus on those big wins. After our sales meeting we group together and discuss one win for the week (this can be professional or personal). Not only does it give everyone a chance to feel confident in their progress, it also makes the team get to know either other more.
- Treat ‘yoself’ (and your staff): After we discuss those wins, we are onto a personal favourite of mine……TWITTER TIME. In this space we crack open a beer, chat amongst each other and work on any form of company social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook). This time is filled with a lot of laughs and again helps boost that good old morale.
- Get Organised: This is a personal task that is not compulsory. Many successful professionals take 10-15mins every Friday afternoon to clean out their inbox, organise their diary, and declutter their desk. A recent report by Office Max found that there is direct correlation between a clean and tidy office space and a more productive day’s work.
So, think twice before draining the last couple of hours out of your employees on Friday. Get organised, motivated and increase morale in a fun easy Friday arvo routine.
